Friday September 21 was International Peace Day. Riley's school always has their own celebration. Each older child is paired up with a younger child as "peace buddies" who participate together. Riley's peace buddy was Gabriel. Here they are following the peace dove in the procession up to the grassy area where the whole school formed a circle and had a full minute of silence(amazingly enough there was actually no talking!), listened to the head of school talk a little about peace, and joined together in singing a peace song.
Then they headed down to the soccer field to fly the peace kites they had made with their peace buddies. Needless to say, the kites were a big hit!
Davey enjoyed watching.

RJ and the Boat
Nathan's dear old friend (and mine, too, just not as old) RJ came for a visit recently. It was wonderful to see him. The remote control boat he brought Riley was a big hit! They went down to the Connecticut River to test it out. Success!!
Then... success? Not so much. Fixable, I hear, but in process. Here they are in the basement workshop trying to decide what to do about a gear with broken teeth.

Davey's First Birthday
Uncle Nathan came!
Davey eating his first cake ever!
Flying balloons like a kite.
This is a huge balloon that Ruth brought for Riley. She got it in Mexico.
Sometimes serious effort was involved in getting it unstuck!
Nathan added some helium at one point for even more high flying fun.
Davey still loves corn on the cob!
P.S. These pictures were all taken by Grancy/Grandma Nancy/Nancy/Mom. I took black and white non digital pictures that day.

Morningside Flight Park
On Monday we went up to Morningside where Dae and Neill paraglide. The winds ended up being too strong for them to fly once we were there. So, we hiked up to the top of the hill and hung out right next to the hangliders as they took off. They can fly in strong winds, and boy did they soar! Our kites did, too!
